Kathy Scarbrough is a deeply committed artist and educator who consistently delivers music of the highest caliber. Her passionate performing reflects also in her love of students as she seeks to bring forth a music which would communicate the journey of the heart and the individual voice of the performer. A true testimony to music as an expression of life, Kathy produces an artistic voice which is vibrant, fresh and compelling.

In all the years that I have been privileged to know Kathy Scarbrough, she has continually been a stellar example of the rare combination of humility and creativity that make a true artist. Her musicality on the flute is pure and graceful, one that serves rather than seeking to draw attention to itself. Anyone around her will experience her selfless, deeply supportive personality that is quite evident in her music making.

Collaborating with Kathy Scarbrough in Ensemble.Twenty21 performances was an enriching experience both musically and personally. It was a joy to perform several modern works that rarely see the light of day. Kathy created an environment that enhanced our music making by maintaining the highest of standards while at the same time constructing a collegial atmosphere that allowed an easy interchange of ideas. Living on the west coast now, I really miss working with her!

As a former student of Kathy Scarbrough's, I can honestly say that very few teachers have impacted me so deeply as both a musician and a person. Her lovely sound and heartfelt musicianship combine with a graciousness and sincerity that truly make her a joy to play with and learn from, and I am privileged to count her among my mentors and friends.

During the four years that my daughter studied with Kathy, she progressed from a second-year flutist to entry into Cleveland Institute of Music. Kathy helped her in so many ways, from coaching her through specials for church to preparing her for recitals, competitions, auditions, and performances. Kathy made excellent recommendations for superior instruments, college auditions, and outside learning opportunities. My daughter so benefited from Kathy's teaching that she went on to earn a master's in flute performance.

Kathy Scarbrough taught two of our children flute. She is a hard worker and a great example for anyone who wants to be the best at what they do. She is incredibly passionate and a very talented flutist. More importantly she is a great teacher. Both of my daughters always said she was good at explaining things and they knew she really cared about them. She pushed their limits and helped them discover their true potential. She never talked down to them and was always very encouraging. I am glad that Kathy was part of the team of people who helped to raise my kids. They are both strong, confident young women and I am grateful for Kathy's example and support.

My daughter, Natalie, took flute lessons under Kathy throughout her high school years. While I listened to Natalie's playing improve, I could also observe her maturing into a poised, conscientious young lady that I attribute in great part to Kathy's excellent tutelage. Natalie has since graduated college and become an RN. I believe the precision and hard work Kathy expected played a huge role in this achievement. Kathy has remained a respected confidant in Natalie's life.
